Community Centre Registration
You will hear a woman calling a community centre to ask about joining one of its fitness programs.
Receptionist: Good afternoon, Riverside Community Centre. Daniel speaking. How can I help you?
Caller: Hi. I’m hoping you can give me some information about the fitness programs you offer. I’ve recently moved into the area and I’d like to start exercising regularly again.
Receptionist: Certainly. Are you interested in using the gym itself, or are you looking for one of our organized classes?
Caller: Mainly the classes. I can exercise at home, so joining just to use the gym isn’t really what I’m looking for.
Receptionist: No problem. We currently offer swimming, yoga and indoor cycling, among other activities.
Caller: I considered swimming because I used to do that quite often, but I’m really interested in trying yoga. I’ve never taken a proper yoga class before.
Receptionist: We have beginner yoga classes on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings.
Caller: Thursday evening would definitely be better. I work until five most weekdays, so getting here for a morning class would be impossible.
Receptionist: The evening class starts at 6:30, so that should give you enough time.
Caller: Yes, that’s perfect.
Receptionist: New members sometimes ask whether they need to bring their own yoga mat, but we provide all the equipment. We do, however, need to verify your identity when you attend for the first time, so please bring some identification.
Caller: A driver’s licence would be okay?
Receptionist: Yes, that’s fine. You don’t need a doctor’s certificate unless there’s a particular medical condition that we need to know about.
Caller: Great.
Receptionist: If you’d like, I can register you now.
Caller: Yes, please.
Receptionist: Can I take your surname?
Caller: It’s Marshall. M-A-R-S-H-A-L-L.
Receptionist: Thank you. We offer three-month, six-month and twelve-month memberships. Which would you prefer?
Caller: I was thinking about three months initially, but the six-month membership seems better value. Let’s do six months.
Receptionist: Certainly. Would you like to begin immediately?
Caller: I’m away for most of October, so there’s not much point. I’d rather start in November.
Receptionist: That’s fine. I also need the name of an emergency contact.
Caller: Put down my sister, Helen.
Receptionist: Helen. Thank you. Now, the regular six-month membership is $180, although the price is currently reduced to $150 for new members.
Caller: That’s good.
Receptionist: I’ll process the registration today. We used to mail confirmation letters, but everything is electronic now. You’ll receive an email confirming your registration later this afternoon.
Caller: Perfect. Thank you for your help.
Receptionist: You’re welcome. We look forward to seeing you in November.
